I believe that clutter is a state of home-less-ness and it's time to end this sad condition!

Everybody and everything needs and deserves a home, a place to call one's own.  This is not an impossible task when dealing with our stuff.  Here's 2 major causes that often result in  home-less-ness:

    NOT ENOUGH SPACE - No...

Every summer, our family takes a vacation to a lakeside cottage in Maine.  Usually it’s my family of four plus my parents, who love to join us as we leave the world behind.  There’s no stress here.  No worries about work, schedules or deadlines.  And beyond the breathtaking landscape, what really makes the trip so enjoyable...

During a recent visit to Raleigh, North Carolina, my dear colleague Geralin Thomas, of Metropolitan Organizing, asked me to write a guest post for her blog answering the important question: “What is Holistic Organizing?” In recent years there have been an increasing number of...

The blonde I have in mind is Goldilocks.  She understood the true meaning of fit - not too big, not too small - just right. This is a great principle to keep in mind when organizing your paper files (among other things!)  Are your categories too big or too small or just right for you?  A folder labeled "BILLS 2010"" is just...

Like so many people I’ve had a gym membership for several months, but unfortunately about 6 weeks after I got it last fall I was thrown for a loop by a knee injury (while swimming of all things, which was then compounded by a severe hamstring pull). So, for months the membership languished unused.

Now at the urging of my Physical...

When working with parents, often a challenge they face is how to deal with the masses of children’s drawings and schoolwork.  In the case of my mother, nearly all forms of art and every last spelling test for both of her children were kept beyond their college years.  Having those visual reminders of your children when they were young...

In a recent conversation with some fellow organizers we were discussing the different settings on a label maker; font sizes, borders, caps versus lowercase letter, the list goes on.  While to many the detail of how the label looks is insignificant, its purpose it to tell me what goes in the specific bin or file.  To others, the...

As organizers, it is important to be ever mindful of the fact that we are being given the privilege, the honor, of sharing not just physical space with our clients, but mental, emotional, and spiritual space.  And it is that space, the intangible space, which actually matters more.

I had the recent opportunity to work with a woman...

I was reading my buddy Amanda's July 14th blog Consequences: Eating and Organizing and it got me to thinking about another way eating and organizing are synchronized. Just as crash diets are bound to fail (and trust me- I've tried enough of them!) -...
