“With all the transitions taking place in my life the sessions helped compartmentalize the areas that could be contained. I am able to accomplish more in a timely manner. Erin, not only did you help structure my filing system, you instilled in me a belief that I could do it with ease and grace.”
"Care for our actual houses...however humble, is also care for the soul." - Thomas Moore, "Care of the Soul"
We want our homes to be havens- places where we can relax and be ourselves.
Confession: Sometimes I relax so much at home that my haven turns into a messy cave. And that messy cave then sucks up all those relaxed vibes.
In her book "It's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys," Marilyn Paul, Ph.D. writes, "Part of organizing is to internalize a sense of consequence so that you become aware that saving one piece of paper [or in my case, not washing the dishes] at one point in time could lead you to an overwhelming mountain of papers [or dishes] later on." It's so true. No matter how many times I ignore those dishes, they never wash themselves. And they seem to multiply while they sit in the sink. I see them and I feel crummy.
I hate doing the dishes. What is it that YOU avoid doing? What is it costing you? What would it feel like once the task is finished?
Well, I'm off to clean the kitchen... It will be good for my soul.
